President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo Graces Special RDC ExCom Meeting in Calbayog City

 During the Special RDC ExCom meeting at TTMIST in Calbayog City, the President said that her priority includes the Maharlika Highway in the Samar side. The President of the Republic of the Philippines Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo attended the Special RDC Executive Committee (ExCom) Meeting held last July 15, 2008 at the Tiburcio Tancinco Memorial Institute of Science and Technology (TTMIST), Calbayog City.
Together with the President were Cabinet Officer for Regional Development (CORD) Sergio F. Apostol, Presidential Assistant (PA) for Eastern Visayas Victor Domingo, Sec. Gabriel Claudio (Office of the President), Asst. Sec. Norman Dato (Office of Political Affairs), Asst. Sec. Ferdinand B. Cui, Jr. (Presidential Management Staff) and Sec. Arthur Yap (Department of Agriculture).
Also present were the RDC officials and members of the RDC Executive Committee, Eastern Visayas Legislators, Governors and Mayors.
RDC Chair Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento presented to the President the Eastern Visayas Strategy Score Cards. He explained that the Score Card which translate the region's broad development strategies into concrete outcomes uses four perspectives: C-O-F-I. C - stands for “constituency” or “citizenry'; O - for “organization”; F - for “financial resources” and I - for “infrastructure”. He also emphasized that the said Scorecard is proven to be a very good tool for monitoring and reportorial purposes.
Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento then presented the priority programs and projects for Eastern Visayas Region and appealed to the President to endorse these major projects to the line agencies thru the cabinet secretaries with the hope that the same line agencies will provide the funding requirements to complete the projects at the soonest possible time.Click to comment on this article (0 Comments) |

Sec. Gabriel Claudio Leads Information Campaign on Food and Energy Security in Eastern Visayas

As part of the government's response to global food shortages and rising prices a Regional Forum on Food and Energy Security was held in Eastern Visayas last June 19, 2008 at the NEDA VIII, Candahug, Palo, Leyte.
Secretary Gabriel Claudio led the forum together with Asec. Ian Norman Dato (Office of the Political Affairs), Asec. Ferdinand D. Cui (Presidential Management Staff),Victor Domingo (Presidential Assistant to Eastern Visayas), RDC VIII officials and Regional Directors.
Several participants from various LGUs, regional line agencies, business community and other key stakeholders likewise attended the forum.
The forum highlighted the global nature of the food and energy security challenges and presented the government’s accomplishments and ongoing efforts to address these challenges.
Mayor Mel Senen Sarmiento, RDC Chair, in his opening remarks emphasized the role and use of the RDC Score Cards in identifying the issues that need solution in the region as well as the priority programs and projects for Eastern Visayas. The Score Cards incorporate the planned activities, programs and projects of government agencies in Eastern Visayas. It will be used to keep track of agency performance in achieving regional development goals.
Thereafter, Sec. Gabriel Claudio gave a brief introduction and pointed out the importance of the forum citing the instruction from the President for the members of the Council to go back to their respective regions and provinces so that they can explain the present issues or problems on energy and food security especially on the supply of basic food commodities.Click to comment on this article (0 Comments) |
